New BBC weather forecast site – Year 8
October 13, 2008 · 16 Comments
The BBC weather forecast site is changing. Click the image below to visit it. Have a look at the current page, and then click the Weather Beta button on the top left.
Your homework is to comment on the redesign. For example:
- Do you find it easy to use? (e.g. try looking up Taunton on both versions)
- Is there enough information?
- Is the new design attractive and well designed?
Post a comment below with your views. Use your first name and the first letter of your surname to identify yourself – so that I can see who’s done the homework (and who will be doing it in Opportunities Club!)
Your comments will be seen by other teachers and the BBC, so write clearly and politely. I’ll delete any comments written in txt.

Wellington is a Happy Place
July 14, 2008 · Leave a Comment
A psycho-geography project by year 8. Following some questionnaire research that established that some people in the local community were a bit negative about the town, we made a simple sign and persuaded shop-keepers to display it. Most were really happy to do so. This was a nice project – the idea that places affect our emotions is such an easy one to grasp.
Some of the photos are displayed here or look at this presentation

September 9, 2007 · Leave a Comment
On Monday, September 3, 2007, Steve Fossett, the first person to fly around the world in a balloon went missing in Nevada, USA. The plane he was flying has not been found, and the search area is composed of very rugged terrain.

This website has been set up to help with the search. You have to get an adult to sign in before you can use it: http://www.mturk.com/mturk/preview?groupId=9TSZK4G35XEZJZG21T60&kw=Flash
You can help in the search if you have Google Earth. Click on this link to open up the latest satellite imagery of the area in which he went missing: http://s3.amazonaws.com/fossett/geoeye-color.kml
